Kiwanis Club of Kirtland, Ohio
The Kirtland Kiwanis Italian Feast and Night at the Races was a long-time fundraiser for our club, always held in the month of February. This was one of two major fundraisers our club holds each year, and all its proceeds stayed right in our community!
Included in the night's events was a delicious homemade Italian Dinner by our Kiwanians, a Night at the Races , chinese auction, sideboards and 50/50 raffle. It was an annual "look forward to" event for many community members.
The event had its roots years ago, as originators Joel Lucia and Bill Catania began a simple spaghetti dinner where they both showcased their special sauce recipes. It began at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Chardon Road and then moved to The Kirtlander many years ago. Over the years the event took on a life of its own and grew to what it had been recently.
With the changing of the club's meeting space and the inability to now perform all the tasks that made this event a success, The Italian Feast has been replaced by a different winter fundraiser that we hope will grow to be the success this event was. It has taken its place in our Kiwanis history as one of the all-time great events to not only attend, but also to volunteer for and be a part of. Many members over the years have contributed to its continued success! The Feast is now a part of our past but the memories are etched in our lives forever.
The Chinese Auction was added in later years and proved itself to be a huge success due to the generosity of community members, club members and local businesses.
Food was always aplenty and you never went hungry!
The camaraderie among the members was always priceless on Feast Day!
